Kids can lift weights. Lifting weights does not stunt the growth of children. (Attached is a picture of my oldest who is 19 years old and almost 6 feet 7 inches tall..he’s been training with weight since he was 2 yrs old).
Think about this: if people have created a myth that lifting weights (resistance training) is so bad for the body of children, then how come it was a part of schools education to teach us push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups etc which are way harder to perform and damaging to the body at that age when proper form wasn’t really taught…than let’s say like lite weight training with lite dumbbells, lite machines, small barbells and kettlebells. All of that bad teaching and intense heavy weight of my own bodyweight did not stunt my growth.
I was obese as a child until my teenage years so wouldn’t you think having me try push-ups, pull-ups, and sit-ups (with bad form) would be more dangerous than some lite weight training??
The weight of my body was harder on my shoulders and wrists and elbows and low back and hip flexors than some lite free weights or machines. The stuff taught in elementary schools and junior high and senior high schools was more dangerous for our joints, ligaments, tendons, bones, and muscles.
I’ve taught thousands of youth about safe weight training, lifting weights, resistance training, etc for almost 30 years and it’s not stunting their growth and hasn’t stunted my own 4 kids growth or my Nephews’ growth.
Teach your kids, or pay someone to teach your kids, about safe weight training, resistance training, lifting weights.
